Dear Clarkstown Resident,
A few moments of your time can help shape the future of Clarkstown!
The Town has recently adopted a six-month building moratorium, extendable for an additional 6 months, which prohibits approvals of multifamily housing, large scale residential subdivisions and commercial/industrial developments that have the potential to negatively impact the Town’s transportation network, environment, and public safety.
During this time, new land use regulations and other amendments to the Zoning Code will be developed in order to strengthen and safeguard the Town against the impacts of future growth and development. Additionally, the Town will soon complete the Route 303 & 304 Safety and Sustainability Study, which will provide recommendations for roadway improvements along these vital corridors. The findings and recommendations of this study, the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, and other recent studies, will be taken into account when drafting new land-use legislation.
The Town Board has also passed the Clarkstown Community Preservation Act, which will be put to a voter referendum next year. This will establish a dedicated fund for the acquisition of lands containing open space, scenic resources, historic landmarks, critical agriculture and natural resources. Under this Act the Town will form the Clarkstown Community Preservation Board, who will be tasked with creating a prioritized list of properties for acquisition and developing policies and regulations for the protection of these lands.
As a part of these initiatives, the Town invites you to share your input on related land-use considerations by completing the survey.
Sincerely,
George Hoehmann
Supervisor
