Between the onslaught of rain and the recent heat wave, many of us have chosen to remain
indoors as much as possible during the early part of July. But with more moderate weather in
the forecast for the weeks ahead, it’s a great time to start making plans to attend some of
Clarkstown’s amazing summer events. Whether you enjoy concerts, car shows, swimming at
the pool, fishing, family campouts, or outdoor movie nights, Clarkstown has summer fun in store
for you.
Weather permitting, the Town is incredibly excited to be hosting the region’s first ever Patriotic
Drone Show and a performance by the West Point Band at Felix Festa Middle School on
Thursday, July 9th. 400 synchronized drones will illuminate the night time sky with images
celebrating our nation’s heritage over the past 250 years. We’re especially proud to be hosting
this show, as it provides an inclusive opportunity for those with sound sensory issues to attend a
celebration without the noise that comes with traditional fireworks. As a dog owner, I can also
appreciate the benefits that this will have on pets and wildlife in the nearby area.
If swimming is your idea of summer fun, then Clarkstown is the place to be. Whereas many
towns don’t even offer one town pool, Clarkstown residents have three to choose from. Each
one offers something a little different than the others. Lake Nanuet offers an expansive, zero-
entry experience with a mid-pool island and small slides for younger kids. Germonds Pool offers
a traditional pool, a dive pool with a larger slide, and a splash pad area. Congers Pool offers a
less crowded experience with a traditional pool and a splash pad area for the little ones.
Entry to the pools is fee-based, requires advance registration, and is restricted to Clarkstown
residents and their guests. Registration for a Town Community Pass ID card can be completed
at the Parks and Recreation office located at 31 Zukor Road in New City.
Another immensely popular summer offering from the Town is our free summer concert series.
As mentioned earlier, our next concert will feature a performance by the world-renowned West
Point Band. We have a great line-up this summer featuring a wide range of musical genres with
new bands and returning performers such as the always-popular Amish Outlaws and Celtic
Cross. The shows are family friendly, and picnics are permitted. The regular concert series
takes place every Wednesday at Lake Nanuet, with shows starting at 7:00pm. Two additional
concerts are scheduled on Tuesdays at the Congers Train Station Park. When September
arrives, the town offers a number of Friday lunch-time concerts at Kevin Landau Park in New
City. Admission is free for all shows and open to all residents and guests. Bring your chairs and
blankets and come out for a great night of family fun.
Other popular summer happenings taking place in the town include 3 car shows at Congers
Lake, a “Touch a Truck” event, an outdoor movie night at Lake Nanuet on August 7th, and a
family campout at Congers Lake on September 18th.
Full details on all these events can be found on the calendar page at the Town of Clarkstown’s
Parks & Recreation website. Also be sure to subscribe to both the Town of Clarkstown and the
Parks & Recreation weekly newsletters, and check the town’s social media pages on a regular
basis.
In addition to our special events, the town’s park system offers access to over 700 acres of land,
4 community centers, 2 picnic shelters, ball fields, multiple tennis and basketball courts, 2 multi-
court outdoor pickleball facilities, and a variety of playgrounds including a new accessible play
area in West Nyack, and our latest addition of an all-inclusive playground at Zukor Park in New
City. You can set up a quiet picnic, let the kids loose on the playground, or take a stroll along the
beautiful walking trails at Congers Lake and West Nyack.
I hope to see you out there!
