Yard Waste Program

In order to better serve our residents and provide a fast and efficient yard waste pickup, all of the roads in Clarkstown are divided into routes. During yard waste collection, there are 56 routes made up of 1,400 Town roads (300 miles), 43 miles of County roads and 28 miles of State roads. RCSWMA Hours of Operations:

Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. December 1 – March 31 | Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to Noon April 1 – November 30 | Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 pm Please use the Rt. 303 southbound entrance of the transfer station to drop off your yard waste.

Keeping Clarkstown Clean

From March through October, the Clarkstown Highway Department will dispose of yard waste set at the curb and in compliance with the RCSWMA guidelines. Please use the map included or log onto our website, listed below, to identify your area and the corresponding schedule. Pickup is not available in Villages of Upper Nyack and Spring Valley. Free biodegradable paper bags are available to residents at the following locations: Town Hall/DEC, Highway Department, Parks and Recreation Department.

Curbside Pickup

  • Brush, Twigs, Branches, and Hedge Clippings: Tie into bundles no longer than 5 ft. in length an no heavier than 50 lbs.
  • Place Logs in Neat Stacks at the Curb: Logs less than 6 in. in diameter and no more than 5 ft. in length.
  • Mixed Bagged Yard Waste: Biodegradable bagged yard waste will be picked up during the yard waste program, which may include sticks, leaves, and yard rakings from spring and fall clean-up.
  • No Plastic Bags: Plastics do not biodegrade and cannot be mixed in with yard waste.
  • Large Piles: Any brush, twigs,branches, hedge clippings, and logs not in compliance with the above rules will require special pick-up and you will have to wait until the equipment needed is available, and weather permits. Large pile pick-up cannot be held to the published scheduled dates.
  • Safety Reminder: Please do not place any yard waste in the street (pursuant to the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 1220) at an intersection, at school bus stops, near fire hydrants, or over storm drains.
  • Yard Waste Drop-Off: Please note that grass, thatch, stumps, and logs (greater than 36 in. in diameter and more than 3 ft. in length), rocks and dirt are NOT picked up by the Clarkstown Highway Department.
  • Residents may drop off acceptable yard waste material at the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority’s (RCSWMA) Mulch and Compost Facilities. RCSWMA is located at 166 South Route 303 in West Nyack.
