New City, NY – Today the Town of Clarkstown and Congressman Mike Lawler announced the town has secured $315,000 in federal grant funding from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) through its Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A) program.
The federal grant money will help fund the development of Clarkstown’s first comprehensive townwide safety action plan with supporting analyses. Multiple methods of data collection will be used to conduct studies that are accurate and consider all potential safety solution recommendations.
The townwide safety action plan will be used to pinpoint accident locations of high priority for safety improvements and will also use the engineering repository analysis for mapping local traffic patterns to identify the causes of accidents in these locations.The study will also implement community workshops in each of the four council wards, create stakeholder advisory committees, and conduct surveys by mail or online to receive more direct, thorough input from residents and businesses.
The study will allow the Planning and Traffic Board to create a points based system that will prioritize evidence-driven short, medium, and long-term traffic safety changes, whether it be proper signage or underlying infrastructural integrity.

Our highly regarded planning department will now begin the comprehensive townwide safety action process and we will keep residents and interested parties updated on the progress and on input needed over the coming months.”
